Blog Social networking

The basis of blog social networking is to connect. It is a means, a media that is used to share a content, whether an experience, an idea or a passion. In doing so, a purposeful relationship can potentially be established and nourished overtime. It is a way to send a message, a way to educate, a way to express one's opinion about a specific topic, a way to give back to the community etc...
Some benefits of these technologies are the financially affordable aspect, the scalable aspect, and eventually the potential to go beyond and generate sales out of your audience. For example, according to the New York times article about how Obama tapped into social networks' power, “Thomas Jefferson used newspapers to win the presidency, F.D.R. used radio to change the way he governed, J.F.K. was the first president to understand television, and Howard Dean saw the value of the Web for raising money,” said Ranjit Mathoda, a lawyer and money manager who blogs at Mathoda.com. “But Senator Barack Obama understood that you could use the Web to lower the cost of building a political brand, create a sense of connection and engagement.” (2008, November 10). Barack Obama really leveraged these technologies to serve his political era.
On the other hand, a "dark side" of these technologies is the fact that everyone and anyone could become a blogger. The source is not always reliable and it requires some extra efforts to be able to filter out and authenticate a given message. The message is then being spread in a viral way and in the open. Also, the privacy has been reinvented in such a way that there is a grey area between the notion of public information and private information. In his article about Facebook privacy being confusing even to the Zuckerberg, Greenfield, R stated: " Facebook privacy settings are too confusing, and if you really don't want intimate photos out there, don't put 'em on Facebook. But also, don't expect to hide something if you do — everything can be shared and re-shared these days."

These technologies have been evolving from day one. Today, having an Instagram account makes you only a click away from purchasing an article over the web. Some of these technologies are clearly becoming a market place.
