Blog: Social networking sites
Facebook vs Twitter vs Instagram vs Linkedin
As a Millenial, I can totally understand that every social media has its use even if sometimes they overlap. We have so many choices now of platforms that we just use different ways or stick to the only one that we understand the purpose.
Facebook as the first platform I personally joined. Facebook represents the " family reunion" in a sense where you will probably add there your real-life family and friends, the cousin that leaves in Montana and the high school friend who moved to California. It is a place where you usually interact with people you actually know but are far geographically. Since you have your family members on Facebook, posts can sometimes be very polished. Also, people are used to long posts on Facebook compared to other platforms. One new functionality of Facebook very interesting is the groups - that are usually a group of people interesting in the same subject interacting in a closed environment. Other people on Facebook who are not part of the group are not supposed to see the post in it. You have Facebook groups for horse lovers, photographs amateur or pro, cooks, any topic you can think of and this is very nice to meet and share ideas with people who share the same passion.
Twitter was initially a platform where you share the things you do all along your days. Now it is really more like a discussion platform where people can interact about diverse topics and give their opinion with 140 characters. It is a lot more open than Facebook as even if someone does not follow you they can react to your tweets as long as your account is opened to the public. While on Facebook you usually need to be friend with someone or in the same group to be able to react to their posts.
Instagram is more focused on pictures. You need to post a picture in order to write a post and usually, the focus is on the picture you are posting. Instead of writing about a moment, you share the moment with others through a picture. Some people use it as a blog since they can direct the conversation with the pictures they are posting. But the main goal was to post #instamoments meaning sharing a picture of what you are doing at an instant T, with a small caption to put some context to the picture.
Linkedin is a lot similar to Facebook but instead of family and friends, connections are made between professionals. People profiles display their professional experience - schools they attended, degrees they have, companies they worked and work for, skills they have. This platform is usually to foster professional opportunities, find a new job or for companies to hire talents. You can think of it as a platform where HR and job seekers can meet and connect. It is also very helpful the learn about career paths or people's experience in the workforce.
*** In bonus, we have Tinder where people are trying to find a romantic acquaintance. This is probably a topic for another blog post 🔜🔜🔜

Interesting, from reading this post I feel like they are all the same to connect people together and create conversations and sharing of ideas.
